Friends today we are discussing a very vital topic. The topic is it possible to measure the horizontal distance in plane table surveying without chain or tape then my answer is yes. If you want to measure horizontal distance without chain or tape then there are many other alternative instruments in surveying to measure it. Friends from my opinion Technology is so much developed but everyone has not so much money to buy an EDM machine to measure the distance easily with the help of light rays and the other alternative instrument is the total station.
But here is a problem of money because EDM machine and Total station both instruments are so much costly than chain tapes so chains and tapes are economical at that sight. But the more interesting thing is that you get more accuracy with modern equipment. With the help of this type of modern equipment's the work speed of measuring distance is so much increase we save more time for other works. Now friends in my opinion it's possible to measure the horizontal distance in plane table surveying. But here is a more interesting thing is that plane table survey is so much older and I think it's not so much used in survey works. Day by day technology is improving and there is so much advanced equipment or you say all in one equipment that is total station so why are we going to use that type of old technologies which contain too much time. But friends old is gold and we don't need to forget.
